Envelope approach for onlay bone grafting : preliminary surgical and prosthetic results

2009

Minimally invasive surgery principles have been applied to preprosthetic-implant surgery, and an adequate presurgical planning reduces morbidity in both harvesting and stabilization of the bone grafts. Objective: A new ?envelope? approach for onlay bone grafting at the alveolar process is presented, this avoids releasing incisions yet allowing adequate reconstruction of the defective site. Study design: To be included in the study the patient had to have an antero-posterior defect of the alveolar crest. Patient age and sex, location of the defect, type and size of graft, and complications appeared during follow up were recorded. Results: Ten consecutive patients (4 men and 6 women) have bee…

Closure of oroantral communications with Bichat´s buccal fat pad. Level of patient satisfaction

2015

Purpose: To report the closure of oroantral communications with the pedicled buccal fat pad in a series of patients, and to determine the level of patient satisfaction after the surgery. Study Design: A prospective study of patients diagnosed of unilateral or bilateral oroantral communication (OAC) closed using the buccal fat pad between May 2012 and January 2013 was performed. Data analysis extended to: age, sex, and cause, location and size of oroantral communication. Complications and success related to buccal fat pad surgery were evaluated. Also, patient satisfaction was assessed after six months of surgery. Results: Nine patients (3 men and 6 women) with a mean age of 50.5 years and 11…

Immediate non-submerged implants with laser-microtextured collar placed in the inter-radicular septum of mandibular molar extraction sockets associat…

2019

Background The aim of the present study was to radiographically evaluate the vertical socket walls changes, and the peri-implant marginal bone remodelling, and clinicallly the soft tissues conditions around the non-submerged single implants placed into the inter radicular septum of mandibular molar sockets, associated with a collagen membrane, after 3 years of loading. Material and Methods Thirty patients underwent to placement of a non-submerged implants with a laser-microtextured collar into the inter radicular septum of mandibular molar fresh extraction sockets. A collagen membrane and the mucoperiosteal flap were adapted around the neck of the implants, leaving the laser-microtextured c…

Correcting loss of a papilla following orthodontic space opening (Atherton's patch) through implant supported rehabilitation. A case report

2014

The objective of this case report is to describe a surgical and prosthetic technique to create a lost papilla following orthodontic space opening (Atherton´s patch) through implant supported rehabilitation. A switching platform implant was used to replace a left maxillary canine in a unitary interdental edentulous ridge with Atherton´s patch in the distal area of the upper lateral left incisor. The radiographic study revealed correct level of the interproximal bone of the adjacent teeth. A mucoperiosteal flap with crest incision and sulcular extension to the adjacent teeth was made. Special attention was paid to correct position of the implant and the distance (≥ 1.5 mm) between the platfor…

Analysis of the antibiotic prophylaxis prescribed by Spanish oral surgeons

2009

Aim: To identify prophylactic antibiotic prescription practices among Spanish dentists with preferential dedication to Oral Surgery in different types of tooth extraction surgeries. Method: Members of the Spanish Oral Surgery Society were surveyed on antibiotic prophylaxis use in 4 different tooth extraction modalities scaled according to their surgical invasiveness. Results: Sixty-nine of the 105 distributed questionnaires were returned completed. Thirteen percent of the surveyed surgeons would prescribe antibiotics to prevent postoperative wound infection when confronted with conventional tooth extraction lasting less than 5 minutes. In the case of surgery lasting more than 5 minutes, the…

Surgical and orthodontic rapid palatal expansion in adults using a modified palatal partial osteotomy technique (ppot): Technique description and cli…

2020

Transversal hypoplasia of the upper maxilla is a frequent condition between malocclusions. The rapid maxillary expansion (RME) is an already consolidated technique for these types of defects. This case report analyzes the outcome of a novel surgical technique that we named TOPP (Partial Palatal osteotomy technique) aiming to provide scientifically proven data over the percentage of relapse and the long-term stability of this type of surgical assisted palatal expansion. A 24 year old male patient with a hyperdivergent class III, presenting the absence of 1.1 due to a teenage trauma and a transversal contraction of the upper arch was selected for the surgery. The mucoperiosteal flap was perfo…
